Showing Up in Faith: How Simple Obedience Lets God Do the Impossible
What if you could take a class where the only requirement for a perfect score was to simply show up?
You’d probably rearrange your entire schedule to be there, right?
CJ shared this with me recently as an illustration for sharing our faith. When we show up to tell someone about Jesus, there’s no such thing as failure. God gives us 100%—because whether we’re planting, watering, or watching Him bring the harvest, He’s the one doing the work.
Most of the time, we’re planting seeds. Quiet, unseen moments of faithfulness that no one else notices—but heaven does.
This week, CJ felt led to go to a local high school after classes let out to hand out tracts. He’s done it before, but this was my first time. He stood on one side of the street, and I walked a couple of blocks to the other side, praying as I went.
On my way back, I met a girl named Olivia. She told me she was a Christian, but her family hadn’t found a church yet. We talked, I shared a few resources, and I got to pray for her right there on the sidewalk. Her whole countenance changed—like light breaking through clouds.
I don’t know what God will do with that encounter, but I trust He’s at work.
“Neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.” (1 Corinthians 3:7)
That truth takes the pressure off, doesn’t it? Our job isn’t to produce results—it’s to show up. To be faithful. To be willing.
You never know what a simple step of obedience might do in someone’s eternity.
So let me ask you… What’s one way you can show up this week? Maybe it’s praying for a coworker, inviting a neighbor to church, or simply smiling at someone who looks downcast.
Whatever it is—show up. God can take your small seed and grow something eternal. 🌱
