How the Presence of God Pulls You Back When Life Distracts
Some days it feels like the world is engineered to pull us away from God. Notifications. Distractions. A dozen “urgent” things screaming louder than the one thing my soul actually needs.
The last couple of months were like that for me.
Unexpected family issues, business decisions, problems popping up faster than I could solve them. I slipped back into project mode… doing just enough to get by in the Word and prayer, but not really lingering with Him. And I felt it. That slow drift.
But here’s the mercy of God: He never lets me stay there.
Yesterday at our church's noon prayer gathering, the Holy Spirit met me.
No striving. No forcing it. Just His presence rushing in.
I was undone in the best way.
This morning I was back in my prayer closet for a full hour, not out of pressure, but because He drew me. He always does.
I know I’m called to intercession. And yes, the enemy tries to derail me, over and over. But it’s not about my strength. Jesus said, “Apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5 ). I’ve lived that verse. And I’ve lived the flip side too… the power that comes when He restores and realigns me.
We’re living in a time when distractions hit us like waves.
Endless dopamine loops. Constant noise.
But we don’t have to live like everyone else. We really can walk differently, but only by the Spirit. “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of hosts” (Zechariah 4:6).
Schedules help. Habits help. But they can’t replace a touch from God.
Yesterday, He touched me again. And the fire came back. The clarity came back. The hunger came back. I’m ready to stand in the gap again, because He pulled me close.
Where are you right now? Focused or distracted? Burning or barely flickering?
If you need the Holy Spirit’s power, you don’t have to earn it. You just have to ask.
He’ll draw you back too. 🔥
