How to Follow the Holy Spirit’s Guidance in Everyday Encounters
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you actually stopped and asked the Holy Spirit to guide your steps?
Last week, I heard a testimony of a woman who had been ready to end her life until she found a tract slipped under her door. Through that simple, Spirit-led act, God completely changed her life.
Her story really impacted me. Through this testimony, God reminded me that we need to ask the Holy Spirit to guide our steps in outreach—not just doing the same thing every time, but stopping to ask: Where do You want us to go? Lead us to those who need to hear from You today.
So yesterday, CJ and I went out for outreach again. He felt led to go to the apartment complex across from our church and knock on doors. Honestly, I felt a little nervous, but I kept asking the Lord for boldness and direction. We went to the first building, but no one was open to talking with us. As I prayed, I sensed we were supposed to try another building nearby.
And that’s where we had a divine appointment.
We knocked on a young man’s door and asked if there was anything we could pray for. He told us he couldn’t believe we had come that very day—because the day before, he had been suicidal. He shared that he is interested in God and even open to attending our church, but is still walking through a lot of darkness and depression.
At one point, CJ reached out to hug him, and the young man broke down in tears—clinging to him so tightly. We prayed with him, encouraged him, and told him that if he wanted to come to church, he could sit with us.
We could have gone anywhere for outreach—the park, the mall, the bus station. But God led CJ to this apartment complex. And out of all the doors we could have knocked on, He led us to his.
Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:27, ESV)
In your day-to-day encounters, are you asking the Spirit to guide you? He still leads—and if you’ll listen, He’ll use you to bring hope to someone who needs it most.
Next week, we’re hosting a free live Zoom called When God’s Burden Becomes Yours. If this touched your heart, I’d love for you to join us. Click here for more info: https://hungeringforgod.com/burden
